Laser hair removal can reduce hair growth for the long term — if it is planned properly. A short checklist before your first session.
Laser hair removal works by targeting the pigment in hair follicles. Because it depends on the contrast between your hair and skin, a proper assessment matters.
Before your first session
- Avoid waxing, threading and plucking for at least 4 weeks — shaving is fine.
- Avoid direct sun and tanning for two weeks before and after.
- Tell your doctor about medicines, skin conditions and any history of cold sores.
What to expect
A small patch test is usually done first. Sessions are spaced several weeks apart because hair grows in cycles, and most people need around 6–8 sessions for good reduction.
Aftercare
- Use a gentle moisturiser and broad-spectrum sunscreen
- Avoid hot showers, saunas and scrubs for 24–48 hours
- Do not pick at treated skin
Results vary between people. A consultation will tell you what to expect for your skin and hair type.
